About cover bands

One of the big doubts that people often have when they organise a party is whether the repertoire of the cover band is big enough and suitable for their event. By hiring a cover band you can put this worry to rest. A cover band is a group of professional musicians who "cover" famous songs by bands and singers. A talented and professional cover band can be the perfect addition to your party, but take the time to find out exactly what you want for your party and what options you have for bands. Our entertainment specialists are happy to help you with this.

Cover band at wedding.jpg

Whether you are looking to hire a cover band that can sing songs from the 70s for your 50th birthday, a small orchestra playing the best classical pieces at a wedding, or an energetic singer for a street party, a cover band can fit into your event and deliver a show! For this reason, Evenses offers a very wide range of different cover bands, from pop groups and jazz bands, to bands that play golden oldies and all-round cover bands. You can contact us without obligation to find out more about what we can do for you and your party in the field of cover bands.

What exactly is a cover band?

Hiring a cover band can be the perfect finishing touch for your party or event, but it is extremely essential to choose a band that fits the party you're organising. A band that will complement the vibe you're looking for is important to keep in mind. Knowing this, it is more of an advantage to go for a cover band instead of one that mainly plays their own work. Despite the fact that cover bands largely play music from other artists, there is always differences and specialisations that come with each. For example, at Evenses you can find cover bands that can play all the pop music you want, but also bands that specialise in Latin music or jazz, to name just a few.

It is also important to realise that a cover band is not necessarily a tribute band. A cover band generally plays well-known songs from different artists or bands, while a tribute band generally focuses on playing the repertoire of one particular singer or group. In other words, all tribute bands are normally cover bands, but by no means do all cover bands act as tribute bands. By booking a cover band, you often get a little more variety and flexibility with regard to the music played at the party.

What should you discuss with the cover bands you like?

As we mentioned earlier, booking a cover band for your party or event is not difficult, but it is important that you do some research before making a choice. Of course, you want the band to fit well with the event that you are organising. On our website, you will find an extensive selection of cover bands, all with a profile and information that is useful when selecting a band. You can also use the search engine and filters to make the process easier or simply contact us via the quotation form, e-mail, or telephone for more information. To help you get started, we have listed some tips below that you should pay attention to when choosing a cover band.

Take the time to investigate

Once you've decided to brighten up your party with a cover band, it's important to compare some options and acts. An opinion from someone you know is often the best when choosing a band, but it's very useful to investigate on your own as well. For example, you can browse the internet to see if the band is on social media and whether you can find reviews from people who have seen them perform. Does the band have a website? Can videos be found from their previous performances? Is it easy to contact the band? All this type of information can help you form a first impression of the band.

Keep an eye on the budget

Whether you want to celebrate a birthday, organise a wedding, or add a surprise to the annual company outing, ultimately you will always have to deal with a budget. It is therefore important to ask for the price of the cover bands you have in mind. It is also useful to ask the band about the equipment they need, how much of it they can arrange themselves, terms of transport, and whether they also have a host for the event. Preparing all these factors for the band will give you the most accurate outlook of how much the quote will be without any surprises.

Pay attention to the necessary space

If you want to book a cover band for a party, it is a good idea to take the space that the band needs into account. There is quite a difference in the required space between a solo folk singer and a five-piece jazz band. The more members and instruments the cover band has, the more space they will need. This is one of the things you can ask when you first contact a band that you like.

The set-up is everything

Certainly, in the case of events where timing is crucial, such as weddings or ceremonies, it is important to know how much time the band needs to set everything up. Like all bands, cover bands also need some time to perform sound checks and make other preparations. To keep the stress on the day of the party as low as possible, it is advisable to book a cover band that may be present a few hours in advance.

Provide clarity about how long the performance should last

Most cover bands can give both short and long performances, depending on the type of event and the budget that is available. At a wedding, for example, you may want a cover band for the reception, but not during the ceremony. For a birthday, on the other hand, you may only want a performance for an hour or two. It is important to discuss this with Evenses before booking the band so that you can plan the evening accordingly.

Let the band know in time if you have specific requirements

As mentioned earlier, one of the great advantages of booking a cover band is that you can personalise the performance to a large extent. Requesting songs, for example, is an excellent way to give the party a personal touch, while adding an extra band member or instrument can also be fun. Acknowledge your wishes to the band early on, so that they have enough time to prepare and to give possible other suggestions.

The visual part is also important

In addition to the musical aspect of booking a cover band, it is also important that the set-up and the band members look presentable. A live band is also a visual experience for your guests. You can discover a lot about the presentation and the visual side of the act with the help of photos and videos from previous performances. It is quite possible that the band is prepared to adapt to your event. Just think of a hippie-inspired set-up for a 70s' party, a rock band in full attire, or a three-piece band in tuxedos for a wedding.

FAQ for Cover bands
How much does it cost to book a band?

Many of our customers want to find a wedding band and to find out how much it costs. A flat rate cannot be given here, as it depends on several factors, such as the quality and size of the band, effort, playing time, travel distance and duration, equipment, sound technology and awareness/popularity. Together these determine the final total price of the band.

If you take a look at our portfolio, however, you can get an overview of how much the respective bands can be booked from. With a professional band you can expect costs from £1000-£3000 and with a well-known band the costs can exceed £5000. In the event that you have set a fixed budget, we recommend that you contact us directly so that we can find the right bands for your occasion and your budget.

How long does a cover band last?

A standard action is composed of three sets of 45 minutes. This is spread over a period of 3 - 3.5 hours. Shorter performances are also possible. The maximum running time of most bands is four sets of 40 minutes. This can be spread over a period of 4 to 5 hours. If you want more action, we recommend you to book a DJ for the breaks or book an additional act.

How long are the cover band's breaks?

To act in a pleasant, professional and enthusiastic manner, performers have to pause the performance occasionally. A performance up to 1 hour is by default performed without breaks. For longer events, you can assume an hourly pause of about 15 minutes.

What happens during the cover band breaks?

During breaks the bands often play atmospheric music. The music is usually in line with the music played during the show. Some bands come with a DJ, who will provide the music. Of course you can also personally book a DJ to play during the bands breaks.

How long does a cover band take to set-up?

The set-up of bands from 3 to 4 members will take approximately 45 minutes. With larger bands this will take 1 to 1.5 hours. The amount of equipment is always adapted to the audience size. If the crowd is very large (over 175 people), the build-up time will be longer. We will inform you about this in advance.

How long before the cover band band is ready?

It is standard for the band to be ready 30 minutes prior to the performance. This means that everything has been built up and is sound checked. It's also possible to agree in advance when the band is ready to start. However in this case, the band members are of course spending more time working, so there is a fee for this delay. This fee can be discussed in advance with Evenses.

Should we arrange a stage for the cover band?

Usually the cover band groups don't need a stage. If there is a free space they can often play there. With a large audience it is nice to have a stage. This way everyone has a good view of the group.

What is a cover band?

A cover band is a music group that plays well-known songs originally recorded by other artists. Unlike original bands, which create and perform their own music, a cover band focuses on playing well-known music from different genres and eras. The goal of a cover band is to entertain the audience and let them enjoy well-known music by accurately playing these songs and sometimes also enhancing them with their own interpretations.

Cover bands can be hired for various types of events, including parties, festivals, corporate functions, weddings and other special occasions.

What songs do live bands play at weddings?

The bands have a repertoire of songs from which they play. They are often open to suggestions and request numbers. It is a good idea to indicate this well in advance of booking. On the evening itself, requested songs can be detrimental to the construction of the set and therefore the enjoyment of the guests. If a requested song is not in the repertoire, several bands are willing to rehearse 1 or 2 songs.

How long does a live band play?

A standard performance consists of 3 sets of 45 minutes. This is spread over a period of 3 – 3.5 hours. Shorter performances are also possible. The maximum playing time of most live bands is 4 sets of 40 minutes. This can be spread over a period of 4 to 5 hours.

How long does a live band play?

How long does it take to build the cover band?

The formation of bands takes approximately 45 minutes for 3 to 4 piece bands. For larger bands this takes 1 to 1.5 hours. We always adjust the amount of equipment to the group size. If the group is very large (more than 175 people), the setup time will also be longer.

  4. Artwork or any online promotions cannot be actioned until the deposit is paid in full.
  5. All Artwork and Publications must be proofread prior to release.
  6. We ensure all the entertainment is booked correctly and we organise the whole process until the event date.

How is the technology arranged?

Each artist has a technical rider that is shared in advance to ensure requirements can be met. This states exactly what the famous artist needs to perform. Most acts bring their own other than those in our Famous Section.

Is the artist available?

It is important to carefully check whether the well-known artist is available on the indicated date. We will check the availability for you and will send you a proposal based on this. If we indicate that the artist is available, the option will also be fixed. Otherwise it will be clearly indicated.

What is a rider?

A rider is a document in which the wishes and requirements of an artist are recorded. Well-known artists in particular often have a number of wishes, such as their own dressing room, a certain number of bottles of drinks, a meal and so on. In addition to this 'hospitality rider', artists often also have a 'technical rider'. This rider states, for example, which speakers, inputs and monitors are desired. In many cases, the artist's sound engineer takes this himself. He can also plug into your available sound set. On the technical rider you can see whether your Production Kit & Audio meets the artist's requirements. If you don't understand this. No problem, we are happy to help you with this!

How is the price determined?

The desired duration of the performance
Travel time and travel costs
Any lighting and/or sound technology required
Any waiting and preparation time
The group size
Familiarity of the act
Booking Fees

Ultimately, every party is unique. Therefore, we are happy to discuss your requirements in advance and can make an appropriate tailor-made proposal.

How can I cancel?

Do you want to cancel unexpectedly? Please contact us, we will then try to resolve it as best we can for both you and the entertainment you have booked. In consultation, we usually come to the best solution.
This is our standard cancellation policy:
The deposit is payable upon issue of contract and non-returnable unless the Artist cancels the performance. The Promoter / Client agrees to pay 100% of the total fee agreed if the performance is cancelled within 120 days of signing the contract.

How does payment take place?

After signing the contract directly with the Artists or their Management, you will be sent an invoice with the payment details included payable by bank transfer to our UK partner Jealous Entertainment Ltd and / or directly from the Artist or direct Management.

We always have a backup option available. If the entertainment you have booked is unable to perform due to force majeure, we will do everything we can to make it happen. Because we have such a large network, we always succeed.
